Volunteer this Summer at Lydia Place!
We have continuous projects with varying needs of time and attention, so whatever time you are able to commit, we have a task for you!
Activities include: Room re-organizing, filing, shed organization, mailings, data entry, creating folders, stuffing envelopes, and reorganizing event materials. Additional activities can vary based on the needs of the office and staff.
The main goal of the client support staff is to create a safe, comfortable, and friendly environment for the clients and be a positive role model. Activities depend on the skills and interests of the volunteer and may include playing with the children, cooking, baking, gardening, or just providing a listening ear for clients in the Transitional Housing Program.
We are organizing a shed clean-up in July to clean, clear and get organized! This is a great activity for service groups or volunteer committees.

The Whatcom Windermere Real Estate and Property Management team chose Lydia Place as their community project site for 2014. We were overjoyed at being selected and as over eighty amazing Whatcom County professionals traded their business attire for gardening clothes and computers for weed wackers – their enthusiasm and joy in the project was contagious!

Whatcom Talk – May 13, 2014:
Handbags For Housing was born as a creative and fashionable way to raise awareness about programs and services offered through Lydia Place – a non-profit agency working to end homelessness in Whatcom County since 1989. Lydia Place supports families in establishing sustained independence.
Bellingham Business Journal – May 5, 2014:
Homelessness often has roots in a number of societal ills, including substance abuse and domestic violence. But according to Emily O’Connor, the executive director of Lydia Place, securing safe housing for all is the first step toward permanent solutions.
Bring your friends, family and colleagues to the 2nd Annual Handbags For Housing – a fun-filled evening of fashion and fun benefitting homeless families presented by Lydia Place and Charter College.
Event highlights include the re-fashion handbag and accessory bazaar, the Labels Women’s Consignment fashion show featuring over ten local boutiques, winery tastings from Samson Estates Winery, beer tasting from Boundary Bay Brewery, and gourmet appetizers from Crave Catering.
Tickets are limited and available now at LydiaPlace.org!
For National Volunteer Week, Lydia Place has joined forces with the Whatcom Volunteer Center to create a community interactive project benefiting the residents of the Transitional House Program.
Lydia Place is in need of up to 10 volunteers April 12th 9AM-12PM to clear the property’s fruit orchard and garden beds that has become overgrown. With the communities help, the orchard and garden will become a fabulous respite; a place for both the women and children of Lydia Place to have access to the additional space, as well as fruit from the apple and plum trees. Register today at the Whatcom Volunteer Center.
