Why recurring gifts are HEROic!

Recurring donations are important because they provide Lydia Place with a steady stream of reliable income that we can set aside throughout the year to help offset the cost of emergency motel stays for vulnerable families in our community. Your monthly gift literally saves a child and their family from sleeping in a car, tent, or on the street.

Is there a significance to the $5.00 minimum?

In 2019, when we launched our Housing Heroes monthly donor program, $60 provided the average cost of a single emergency bed night for a family with children. Now, those costs have almost doubled and the need for this critical, short-term housing intervention has risen due to low housing inventory and sky-rocketing rental rates. Your partnership is more important than ever, but we don’t want to raise our minimum to contribute. We are committed to keeping our monthly donor program accessible to all who are willing to unite with us to end family homelessness in our community.

Why Motel Stays?

As our housing system continues to struggle to meet the increasing needs of our community, housing and service providers are faced with no other choice but to turn away families in need of support. As an agency focused on providing housing and wrap-around services to families with children, we feel it is our moral obligation to say “yes” to families whenever possible. Thanks to the support of our Housing Heroes, Lydia Place can continue providing emergency shelter options to Whatcom families in crisis.
