The Lydia Place thrift store “Wise Buys” and Ragfinery are proud to present the debut of The Downtown Upcycle ThrowDown, an art and sustainable challenge event sponsored by Northwest Recycling, Inc. The event marks the first annual cooperative Upcycle Challenge featuring the two local and sustainably minded stores, coming together to make art from donated and discarded goods.

The 3rd annual Handbags for Housing was a rousing success, bringing together fashion, handbags, delicious bites and sips, and lots of smiles — all in support of Lydia Place and benefiting local homeless families.

After 26 years of helping homeless families in Whatcom County, Lydia Place needs more elbow room. So the nonprofit agency in Bellingham is readying plans to add a second story above its offices to provide more space for staff, meetings and classes. The expansion could cost $400,000.

Calling all up-cycled, re-styled and new-styled fashionistas! On June 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m., Lydia Place—along with event partners TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy and Whatcom County Association Of REALTORS—will host the third annual Handbags For Housing at the Downtown Bellingham Depot Market Square; an evening of fashion and fun benefitting homeless families.

Handbags for Housing; the annual Lydia Place fashion-oriented fundraiser looms large in the “passion for fashion” of hundreds of women following their hearts to make a difference and using the beautiful world of colors, textures and glamour to create a better reality for the families helped by Lydia Place.

Klipsun Magazine – March 15, 2015:
After a year of planning, Lydia Place started a new program at the end of January 2015 called the Family Intervention Initiative. They’ve hired two people — a child therapist and a family intervention specialist/parenting educator — to provide flexible in-home support, therapy and resources for parents and children.
Lydia Place serves about 150 households at any given time. One hundred of those households have children.
