In September community members sent in their nominations, and out of 70 nominees, a panel of judges has determined the top seven for this year. The judges considered each nominee based on their character, community involvement, initiative and tenacity, leadership, professional accomplishments, selflessness and vision.
Western Solar, itek Energy and Aslan Brewing Company to provide a solar power system to Lydia Place’s Baker Place property, is the largest project thus far that the groups have been involved.
On November 2 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Lydia Place and The Upfront Theatre will partner to take a serious stand for homeless families at the first annual “Humor for Housing.” Presented by Pysden Team-Caliber Home Loans, this comedic event is a fundraiser to benefit Lydia Place and their mission to end the cycle of poverty and homelessness for children and their families in Whatcom County.
Rotary Club of Bellingham has pledged $100,000 and Bellingham Bay Rotary Club has pledged $50,000 from their Major Capital Grant to support the Lydia Place Strengthening Families, Building Futures Campaign that will renovate the organization’s current housing program office, and add an additional second story. These pledges enable Lydia Place to move into the permitting phase of the project, and break ground in early Spring of 2017.
